Crue & Ainsley had a lot of fun on Halloween & got a lot of candy! Crue was a farmer, and Ainsley was his cow- they both looked so cute!
Crue turned 4 on Nov. 30 and he chose a Monster Truck Party. He even got to have a pinata!
We chose our Christmas tree, and Matt cut it down in the beginning of Dec. We have had horrible luck with every single Christmas tree since we were married. This is the 1st year that we love our tree, it hasn't fallen over, and the needles are staying on the branches! Hopefully this is the beginning of a good-luck streak with trees! i can't believe Christmas is only 2 days away- I'm so excited! I can't wait to see everyone open their presents- that's the best part!!! Merry Christmas to all you followers, and hopefully I'll get some pics of our joyous Christmas celebrations up (maybe even before Easter!)

Fall 2010

We got to do some fun stuff this summer & fall. We got to see a Tigers game, it was Crue & Ainsley's 1st time seeing one in Detroit. He also learned how to ride a 2-wheel bike. He was quite proud of himself, as you can see in the picture! He loves his little sister, and is very sweet to her! We are very blessed to have such great kids! Matt has been home a little more than before, so he has had more time to hang out with the kids. He and Crue love making Lego cities & they could play in Crue's room for hours!

Well, it's been almost a year since I've posted something- so who knows if anyone even checks this anymore! Since Matt got back from Iraq, I haven't had much need to post things. Here are some new pics of our new, precious little girl named Ainsley sue. She was born on May 1st, and she is a very content, happy baby. She only cries when she's hungry, and she loves her big brother! Crue is so excited to have a new little sister, too! He can't get enough of her, sometimes I have to pry him off her so that he won't suffocate her with his hugs! We are so blessed to have 2 amazing kids, and we're escited to watch them grow up together!

Well, I haven't been a very good blogger lately. My computer has been acting up, so I can't get pics onto it- so here's a couple from a while ago- but they're going to be my new canvases in ym living room. They're from when Matt got home from Iraq, and I LOVE THEM!!! Matt's brother also got married a couple weeks ago, so there's one of his brother and his beautiful bride. Everything is going well in MI- we're extremely busy and traveling around a lot this summer. Matt's training in Northern Michigan and I'm going to Rocky Mount, NC with church next week. Crue gets to stay with g-mas's and g-pa's, aunties and cousins. I'm pretty sure he's not going to miss me! That's just a little about what's going on here- maybe I'll get back on before next year!

Visit to Washington D.C.

We went to DC for a week in the beginning of April to visit all our friends- we had a ton of fun. It was nice to have spring for a little while, it takes about 5 weeks longer in MI to become spring. We enjoyed a little sun- except for the day we went downtown- it was freezing and overcast. Now that it's May, it's now spring in MI- and a beautiful one at that! Crue had so much fun "play with friends" and he even did well on the long car trips!

Grand Rapids Griffins

We got to go to a minor league hockey game & sit in a luxury box with Matt's family- it was a ton of fun. Crue loved the zamboni, but not the mascot- I think he got that from me! The "Griffin" came up to see the kids, and Crue started crying hystarically- then the stupid thing thought it would be funny to come give me a hug. I tried flashing him in the eyes with my camera, but it kept coming at me! I finally let him hug me, but not before I got totally creeped out! Here are some cute pics I meant to put up earlier- but never got around to! We had a great day out in the snow one day- Crue loved sledding with daddy. He also helped shovel the walkway. I'm so glad that the snow's gone now! He's also learning how to play the ukilale(?) he loves music! There's also one of Crue and Matt watching a movie on the laptop in a hotel we stayed in for the Army- we also got to go swimming- very fun!

Matt is in San Francisco for a school, so my parents, brother, sister, Crue ane I drove to Florida in an Explorer, for a week. We stayed on Eglin AFB right on the water- that's the water in the fishing pic. There were F-15's taking off and landing all the time- I don't know who liked it more- my dad or Crue! We went to the white sandy beaches of Destin, even though most days were quite cool. Crue got to bowl for the 1st time and loved playing in the sand and outside all the time. We had a ton of fun and it was nice to be out of the single digits and snow of Michigan!

Allendale Fire Department

Matt, Crue, and I visited Matt's new Fire Station. He is a Volunteer with Allendale- and he loves it! He has to leave in the middle of the night and not get enough sleep, but yet he loves it! I could do without the pager going off in the middle of the night, but Matt loves to be able to help people. Crue is in love with fire trucks, almost as much as Matt is! I think Crue is starting to realize just how cool his dad is, with driving fire trucks and Army trucks!

The Joys of Having a 2 Year Old

Here are some pics of our son- up to no good! There's one of the floor after he thought it would be a good idea to "pour" himself a bowl of popcorn. I told him to put the big bag of popcorn away, but instead he tried to pour some into his bowl, then give some to the dogs. The dogs coudn't eat it fast enough- he was caught! He wasn't too happy when I put him in time out! I was especially happy when I tried to vacuum up the popcorn, and it was plugged with Christmas tree needles! There's also a pic of him standing on our great, patient dog, Bella- both dogs are so great with his torture!

It was a huge blizzard when we picked Matt up on Dec 21- everything was closed, and the roads were really bad! Even though that was the case, I was getting to the arena to pick him up, there was no doubt in my mind! His whole family and my parents and sister were there to welcome him home to freezing cold MI! We had to drive really slow on the slick roads, and Matt's brother got rear-ended on the way there, but we made it!

We had to wait a while b/c we got there nice and early to be right by the steps so we could get right down and see him. After the ceremony, I pushed a lady out of the way to be the 1st one down, and I was! Matt was standing right by us and I got to hold him again after 12 long months! I put Crue in his arms, and he knew it was daddy right away! After the rest of the family came down to hug Matt, I tried to take Crue back, but he wouldn't go away from daddy! It was so precious!

My sister-in-law, Jess, took some amazing pictures and I'm so glad we'll have these memories for the rest of our lives! Thanks to everyone who has prayed for and helped Crue and I out while Matt was gone- I don't know what I would have done without all of you guys! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends and family- and so blessed to have Matt home safe and sound! We love you all!!!

6 More Years

So here I am taking the Oath of Re Enlistment. That's right another six years. My soldiers have always told me that I bleed green, and I guess that they were right. This picture is actually the last picture that was taken of me next to my MRAP. As a matter of fact it is the last time that I will have had my picture taken at my FOB. Thank you all for your support, and I cannot wait to see you all again.

Central Michigan Football Game

Matt's unit was chosen to be Central Michigan's Adopted unit (or something like that- Matt always talks in military speak, so I can't understand). We got to go to one of the games (which happended to be biggest game of the season, and the coldest!)and see D-1 school Central play Ball State. It was a great game, and 14th ranked Ball State should have killed Central, but they held on until the last minute- and threw an interception to lose- but it was still a good game! Crue was a little chilly, but I made him go because Matt made a video and they showed it on the big screen. It was so cool to see him, but we didn't know when his video would be shown, so we had to be ready every time. Well, of course, the one time I wasn't ready, there was Matt! We tried to get it on video tape- but missed it. I even had my professional photorapher sister-in-law waiting with my camera to get a pic- but she didn't get it either! So we had a couple other pics of the fun night with Matt's and my family all freezing our butts off! (the one of the scoreboard is the one that should have Matt on it!)

BTW- yes, Crue is wearing Matt's neck gator from the Army- that goes to show just how small Matt's head is and how big Crue's head is!

Combine Ride

Crue got to go to his friend Logan's farm and ride with his grandpa on the combine. He loves tractors, so he was in heaven. We watched the corn get scooped up by the little arms, and then see the finished product (just the corn kernels) pour into the grain trailers. I learned a lot too because I'm not a farm girl- it was a lot of fun! Crue and Logan especially liked playing with the empty corn ears in the field!

Here are a couple pics of my little man. One is of his first time putting his shoes on by himself- notice they're not quite on the right feet! Another is him practicing his drop-kick. He just started doing it, and I don't know where he learned it! He seems to love soccer, so we'll see if that's his sport! This is a pic of the old lockers I got for Crue's big boy bed. My dad painted them for me, and I got the pic that says "A Little Dirt Never Hurt" because it is totally Crue! It turned out great, and I'm sure I'll do some more tweaking to it before I'm completely satisfied! My neighbor said he couldn't wait to hear Crue banging on the metal before bed- which he did the first night! But after I yelled at him, he hasn't done it since! He seems to like his new bed- he loves hiding all sorts of little toys and books in the lockers! I also painted him the picture on the wall, which is him as a little fireman with our dogs next to him. It matches his room, and he loves pointing to the dogs and saying "No, No!"

Wet fall day

Crue, his cousin Brooke, and I went to Boo at the Zoo on Friday. It was a little rainy, but we had fun anyway. Most of the animals were out, and we got to do a little trick-or-treating. Most of the time we stayed dry, but we had to break out the umbrella a couple times. Crue and Brooke dressed up like cowboys, and had a lot of fun! After the zoo, we played around in the John Ball Park, and I got some great pics of both Brooke and Crue. Crue stayed clean for a while, until he was running way too fast, and fell right into a muddy puddle! After that, he only got wetter and dirtier! Even though he was a muddy mess, I still got some great pics of him!

This is a picture I took while waiting in line to see McCain and Palin in a Townhall Meeting in Grand Rapids. Look at the yellow sign closely- to me, it's the epitome of Obama supporters. It was funny that I saw her in the 1st loop of the line, and by the time we got back to that spot in the 2nd loop, she was gone. I'm pretty sure she realized her mistake. Let's hope she realizes her mistake of voting for Obama!

A Day at the Park

Matt, Crue, and I went to the park on a beautiful early fall day while Matt was home. Crue loved being there with daddy- I think he thinks I'm really boring somethimes! We saw a snake in the creek, and he said "sssss" it was so cute, and I was really proud that he knew what it was, b/c he had never seen one before! Matt is an amazing daddy, and we can't wait for the day when we can go to the park any time we want to!

Culver's Soccer Ball Event

Matt worked at Culvers handing out the food one day while he was home. People donated either money to buy soccer balls or a soccer ball to be sent to Iraq. (Crue thought he should be able to take one home- he's so selfish!) There were 140 balls donated, and Matt has been able to hand quite a few out so far. He said it's so amazing to see how excited the kids are to get these soccer balls. He said that a couple days ago, he almost started a riot, and the soldiers had to get back in their vehicles and lock the doors so that the kids wouldn't get in and take more balls! They have so little, and this is such a great way to give them just a little bit of fun in such a dark place! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this great event!

Crue's Big Top

Here's a little glimpse into my world- which I like to call the "3-Ring Circus." Crue loves animals, so there are quite a few different kinds in our circus. His favorite is the black lab that he seems to be be-heading in the picture- he loves both his dogs- Bella and Bailey. He also loves his turtle named Camo- he feeds him 2 pieces of food in the morning and at night. He also has 2 goldfish- which are not pictured- named Maggs and Inge. Those are the animals in our circus, but there are many more that make guest appearances- like the aligator he is kissing, the goat he is feeding, and the cat he is taking a ride with.

Crue's "big boy" room

Crue is a "big boy" now! I found him a quilt that he loves- because it has trucks on it! I put him on the floor on his crib mattress at first, and he did really well. The first day he kept getting out and when I would go in to check on him, he had pretty much all his books in bed with him! After that he only got up a couple more times, and now he stays right in there! Now that he's in his twin bed, he wakes up in the morning, and knocks on his door to let me know that he's awake! I have some old mini lockers that I'm going to paint, and make into his headboard. Once I get it done, I'll put some pics up for ya'll to see!

Daddy's Home!

Matt got to visit us for 12 days in the beginning of September- we had such a great time while he was home! Here are some of the pics that we took when we picked him up from the airport. He had quite the welcoming committee! It took Crue about 20 min to warm back up to him, but after that, it was like he had his best friend home again!

There's a funny story with the balloons. We got a special pass to go past the security check point- and when we got up to where we take our shoes off and put everything on the belt- one of the balloons popped, and it seriously sounded like a gun shot! The security guards stopped everything immediately, and every single person in line was staring at me (of course I was the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to take balloons through a check point)! I naturally turned every shade of red, and the guy told me I had to put the balloons on the belt and through the security machine. That's when I decided not to take the stupid balloons- I don't know if I would have been able to get them through the machine even I wanted to! So that's a lesson learned- don't bring helium balloons when you're planning on flying!

At the Zoo with Daddy

We got to spend the day with Matt at the zoo while he was home for 2 weeks. Crue loved looking at and touching the sting rays, riding the camel and drinking daddy's Jamocha shake. It was an amazing day of family, sunshine, and laughs!

Camping in Traverse City

This is the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay- we went Sea Dooing on it, and it totally looked just like the Carribean!

Crue had a ton of fun playing in the dirt while camping in Traverse City- in northern MI. Every single outfit we brought got dirty and he never had clean feet- even after a bath! Even the inside of his nose and eyes had dirt in them! It was a lot of work taking a 20 month old camping, but totally worth it!

Crue had a ton of fun playing with his cousins while at a baseball (or as Crue would say-BBall) game earlier this summer. My sister-in-law took this amazing picture of him on the old bleachers. One of the only times he was a ham for her while she was taking pics of him. EVERY single photo shoot we've done with her, Crue has been totally cranky and this was no exception for the shoot we had before Matt went back to Iraq- We'll be lucky to find 1 or 2 smiles. There will be some pics posted of that shoot soon! Also I'll try to get some pics of all the fun we had while Matt was home!

This one hurt a little more- he sliced it open on the side of our new deck. He bled all over, and got to go to the ER to be wrapped in a sheet and papoose. He got 6 stitches and a popsicle. The doctor wondered if his black and blue ear was from when he fell, but I had to tell him it was from before! This poor child is hurt all the time!

This is a picture that I took of some fire trucks from the Ar Ramadi Fire Department. They were at the government center watering the grounds. Not to far off from what some of our state side fire departments find them selves doing. Not too much to their trucks. The pump is just a regular water pump, and no foam or ability to really adjust the flow. It is a little different from the Pierce Pumper that is on Camp Ramadi.

Yum Kabob

So I tried my first official Iraqi Kabob the other day. Man, it was good. As you can tell by the picture that there really isn't much to it. A friend of mine, and I, walked over to the Iraqi Police side of our compound to a little convenience type shop. In there are souvenirs that you can buy, and all kinds of beverages, and food as well. In the corner was a brick oven built into the wall, and a little cart by it that had raw lamb meat on kabob sticks. Well, we waited for a minute for the kabob stand owner to come out to make our food. When he came out he was wearing the traditional Iraqi garb (man dress). He took our order, and we watched him as he cut open some fresh bread that was the equivalent of a pita pocket, except it is just plain bread. Then he took the kabobs that were on the fire and put the meat end of the stick into the bread, and pulled the stick out. Next came a tomato, cucumber mixture that is actually really good. For those of you that know me well, you know that I usually don't go for that stuff. Well, this time I did and I am glad that I did too because it was good. Anyway, he used some tongs, which is above par for most places, to scoop out some of the veggies, and placed them in one of the kabobs. Then he put the tongs under his arm, and pulled them through to "clean" them off. Oh yes, you heard me right. What the heck though it adds to the uniqueness of the experience right. We took them back to our rooms, and enjoyed our meal.

Hello From Iraq

It is hard to believe that it is already the middle of June. Now do not mistake that for a complaint either. Things here are going well. The soldiers are motivated, and plenty busy. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has written or sent packages to me. They are greatly appreciated by not only myself, but all the soldiers that get to enjoy the goodies. I also want to thank everyone that has come behind my family that I left behind. Nicole and Crue, are greatful for everything that you have done. It helps me to focus on my mission when I know that my wife and son are taken care of.

The dust storms have slowed down, and the heat has picked up. When we first arrived we were topping high 90's low 100's. Now there isn't a day that drops below 100. Oh well, it is a good weight loss program. Well that is all that I have for now. If anyone has any questions, please just give them to Nicole, and I will answer what I can. Crue Daddy loves you, and I Love You too Babe. I cannot wait to see you all again.

Here's a little taste of what Matt gets to deal with on a daily basis. He said they get about one a day- if not more. He also got to be in the biggest dust storm they'd seen all year. He said dust and sand are just everywhere- even in the tents, because the air conditioners suck it all inside.

I talked to Matt last night, and he's doing very well. He's staying really busy with missions and front desk duty. He's barely getting any sleep, but he likes it that way! He's stationed outside of Camp Ramadi, and he goes on night missions and watches the surveillance screens to see what's going on around their camp. He's having a lot of fun meeting Iraqi Nationals and talking to Iraqi kids. He's staying safe and enjoying himself in the big sandbox!
